If you’re an avid fan of early American history like me, you probably visit the historic sites, walk the battlefields and stand beside beds where George Washington slept. You’ve admired America’s heritage, but until now, you’ve never been able to carry a piece of that storied past with you. Recently, we have acquired a select cache of rare and historic 1783 silver dollars. Our Founding Fathers recognized that the Spanish silver piece was the most desired coin in colonial America. Thomas Jefferson recommended the Continental Congress adopt it as our nation’s first monetary standard of value. The Congress agreed. Perhaps most importantly, each of these coins was struck in 1783—the year General Washington won the Revolutionary War against the British and earned our nation’s freedom.
My challenge to Stauer’s watchmakers was to craft a fine timepiece with this remarkable 1783 silver dollar as the centerpiece. The result surpassed my greatest expectations. The watch features an authentic 1783 Spanish silver dollar securely set inside a handsome stainless steel case rolled in 18K gold. The back side of the coin was chosen as the watch face to highlight the detailed image of the crowned Spanish coat of arms set between the Pillars of Hercules. Every 232-year-old coin is uniquely worn and aged, distinguishing each watch as a one-of- a-kind keepsake. A superbly reliable quartz movement, keeps time using recessed Roman numerals along the outside of the dial. Each 1783 Silver Dollar Watch fastens with a genuine brown croc-embossed leather band and is water resistant to 5 ATM. You will also find a declaration of authenticity etched into the caseback.
This limited-edition timepiece will not last long. We have only a few historic coins available…this is truly a limited edition that can’t be repeated.
