The 1958 Corvette helped usher in a new generation of sports cars
Very few vehicles elicit the same kind of nostalgia as the Corvette. The “Vette” is a symbol of childhood dreams and grown-up triumph. A true American sports car, the Corvette stands for excellence and became an icon as a high-performance and dynamic sports vehicle.
First introduced in January of 1953, the Corvette has only become more renowned as the years drift by. Both the interior and exterior of the Chevrolet Corvette were significantly restyled for 1958 with dual headlights, simulated hood louvres and a full mine’s worth of chrome and side scoops. Inside, the cockpit included a grab bar in front of the passenger seat. The hood featured horizontal covered louvres, resulting in the signature “washboard hood”– a 1958-only feature. For the first time, some say, General Motors made a profit with the Corvette. Park this piece of automotive history in a place where you can admire its sporty lines and get revved up every day.
